The Inspiring youth Awards were launched in February 2007 by the Recruiting Department in conjunction with the South Yorkshire Black Police Association, the award is aimed at young ethnic minority people aged 13 to 17 year old from our local communities, encouraging them to become leaders and do well in their studies whatever that might be.

The results of the pilot proved very positive showing the huge commitment, enthusiasm and dedication that our young people achieved whilst working towards this award.

In February 2007 South Yorkshire Police Recruiting Department in conjunction with the Black Police Association organised the Inspiring Youth seminar.

The event was held as the Sheffield Wednesday Football ground and was attended by groups of ethnic minority children from various schools in the Sheffield area.

The purpose of the event was to inspire these young people and motivate them into achieving their dreams and goals.

When most people think of market researchers they envisage an onslaught of clipboards and a barrage of ‘agree/disagree’ statements to be answered. But there is a lot that goes on before and after the ‘clipboard’ moment. For the sake of brevity, market research can be seen as understanding groups of people and what makes them tick. These groups could be consumers of a certain brand or people of a certain age or members of the public we call on to debate social issues to understand more deeply what people think of an issue or product.

The Merseyside Black Police Association (MBPA) definition of ‘black’ is one that emphasises the common experience and determination of people of African, African-Caribbean, Asian, and Asian-sub-continent or define themselves as an ethnic minority, to oppose racism, victimisation and its effects.

My Background

When I was considering my career, I knew that I wanted to work in the construction industry, because I’d always been fascinated by buildings and the built environment. At first my interest took me down the road of Architecture, but it didn’t take long for me to realise that the emphasis on art and the need for formal art GCSEs/A Levels, as well as the seven years it would take me to qualify meant that this was not the course for me. A little more research into Construction led me to Building Surveying which I quickly learned would allow me to be involved in the design and specification of construction works, but would also allow me to work with buildings in other ways and throughout their life. I applied to study Building Surveying and was offered (and accepted) a place on the course at Reading University.

Investment Bankers, also known as merchant bankers, work with clients to advise them on different approaches to financial, commercial and trading activities. They can work for clients looking to buy another company or they can help companies trying to avoid a takeover bid. Investment Bankers also work for clients wanting to raise funds. Their clients can be companies, institutions, government departments and wealthy individuals.

No-one has to put up with bullying. Bullying makes you feel miserable, sad, angry and worthless.

And bullying does not necessarily end when you leave school. At college, university and in the workplace, victimisation is still a major problem.

Adults and young people who are bullied often blame themselves and are afraid to go to work or study or appear in public places.

Self-blame and feelings of inadequacy can prevent victims of bullying from speaking up for themselves or telling anyone else about what is going on.
