Engineering Profile: Sharanjit Gill
I’m a civil engineer currently working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer. TfL have an excellent graduate training scheme, which covers all the requirements needed for Chartered Engineer status.
Part of our programme means we move around every six months into different areas and work with different people. So I get a whole load of experience and TfL get someone who at the end of it has a good base of knowledge.
At the moment I work with Road Network Management South Area team on their major projects. That involves working the Greenwich Peninsula Redevelopment and the Blackwall Tunnel Northbound Redevelopment.
One of the great things about working for TfL is the amount and variety of road construction projects that are underway, giving me a lot of things for me to choose from. Not to mention all the staff that’s going to be needed for the Olympic site.
There are so many different areas I can work in and you get to see tangible results as well. I can go out and I’ll see something I may have designed or help design in the future.
I find people here are really motivated in getting the job done and the icing on the cake is the friendly, social atmosphere.
