The Royal Academy of Dance - Through Teaching We Learn
Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the world’s largest and most influential dance education, training and membership organisations. With over 13,000 members, resident in 79 countries. The Academy aims to build on its foundations in ways that are appropriate to today’s world and to answer the contemporary needs and aspirations of all young people.
Why Choose us?
Our main aim is to offer a variety of study programmes that will maximise employment opportunities for our graduates. Our focus, therefore, is on educating and training dance teachers who will make a significant contribution to dance and dance teaching in the arts, education and leisure industries.
Our Programmes
We have chosen to deliver our full-time and part-time programmes in a combination of modules including distance learning and traditional taught study at Academy headquarters. This allows us to respond to the specific circumstances of our students, wherever they are in the world. Programmes range from certificate to diploma, undergraduate to postgraduate degree levels.
Realising the importance of our international student community, we have addressed as many of you as possible in eight languages, which represent most of our students. You can also contact any one of the Academy’s 36 offices worldwide to obtain information in your own language.
Our Qualifications
Are validated by the University of Surrey
Are equivalent in academic standard to a degree from any other British university
Are monitored by external examiners appointed by the University of Surrey
Allow our graduates to compete on equal terms for entry to postgraduate programmes and research degrees.
Student Profile
Tara Rose completed the Post Graduate Certificate of Education: Dance Teaching - PGCE: DT (14-19) at the Royal Academy of Dance during August 2005 – June 2006 and quickly secured employment in a North London School. In the first year of her work Tara is classed as Newly Qualified Teacher, allowing her extra time and support to develop her teaching skills even further.
As a dance teacher Tara knows that her work involves encouraging and motivating students to try out dance moves they may not have experienced before and uses her wide ranging skills from a performing arts background to ensure that students get to try out dance in a safe, fun but hard working atmosphere.
Tara trained in order to teach students dance technique, choreography skills and performance confidence, as well as providing pastoral support. At present Tara has focused on the 11 -14 age group and plans to introduce GCSE dance in the next academic year once the school has completed its new dance studio.
